Governing Board


PCCA’s Governing Board plays an essential role in the school’s success through its initial leadership and ongoing oversight of the school’s operations. The Board is accountable for the governance of all aspects of the school and each director fully recognizes and accepts his or her responsibility for the academic performance of our students and the sustainability of the school. The Board is guided by a set of bylaws that define how the Board will operate and oversee all aspects of School activities and otherwise be fully responsible and accountable for the governance of the school. The Board acts to ensure compliance with Florida’s Charter School Law, the Sponsor’s written policies, and the terms of the Charter entered into between the Board and the Sponsor.

Beth Moran (Founder and Board President) – Ms. Moran is director and co-owner of Pineapple Cove Academy (PCA), a highly successful early learning facility and Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program. In this position, she oversees the overall activities, educational needs, and fiscal responsibilities of PCA. Her accomplishments include creating and monitoring policies and procedures that promote a safe learning environment while exceeding established state standards and developing effective marketing strategies. Ms. Moran holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Administration and has over 30 years of successful business and entrepreneurial experience. She brings to the PCCA Board extensive experience and skills in the areas of finance, business management, leadership and planning, education, and staffing.

Angela Sturm, Esq. (Board Secretary)–Ms. Sturm is an attorney for the Department of Children and Families.  During law school, Ms. Sturm completed an internship with the Department of Children and Families Children’s Legal Services and went to work for DCF after graduating from law school.  In 2006, Ms. Sturm moved to Melbourne and supplemented her legal experience with positions at the Brevard County Public Defender’s Office and Allstate Insurance.  Ms. Strum will advise the Board with regard to legal matters.

Norda Gordon (Board Member) -Ms. Gordon has been in the banking and finance industry for almost 15 years and has worked her entire career in customer service. She has worked in various management positions where she has been responsible for team management and morale, budgeting and meeting metric targets, and complete reports and audits for compliance. Ms. Gordon will advise the Board on financial and audit policies and staff and management issues.

Shakira Guice (Board Member) -Ms. Guice has worked in public post-secondary education for over ten years. She has a bachelor’s degree in Criminology from Florida State University and is nearing completion on a master’s degree in Educational Technology from Webster University. Ms. Guice has vast experience in educational program planning and working with students and parents from diverse populations. Ms. Guice will advise the board on program planning, student and parent engagement, and staff relations.

Natalie Alfaro (Board Member) – Ms. Alfaro has 15 years’ experience in the insurance industry, conducting risk assessment and making recommendations for individuals and businesses regarding insurance needs. Ms. Alfaro has skills including management, administrative support and client relations, protecting financial assets, human resources and recruiting, account management and project management and will advise the board in these areas.

Mike Contreras (Board Member) – Mr. Contreras has nearly 10 years’ experience in commercial banking and is nearing completion of a master’s degree in business administration and leadership. Mr. Contreras has vast experience in commercial audits and both state and federal compliance issues as well as human resources and staff training and will advise the board in these areas.
